IGCSE is the International General Certificate of Secondary Education. The curriculum is from England and is equivalent to Grade 10 (M.4). IGCSE is operated by Cambridge Assessment International Education. Students can register for the test at Cambridge or IGCSE Test centers in your country. What is IGCSE equivalent test?

IGCSE stands for International General Certificate of Secondary Educational. It is the world’s most popular international curriculum for 14-16 year olds, leading to globally recognized and valued Cambridge IGCSE qualifications. It is part of the Cambridge Secondary 2 stage. The IGCSE test will be scheduled in May and October in each year. The test fee is around 5,400 – 12,000 THB/subject. The price is based on each subject. There is an extra fee for late test registration. The test location will be in international schools that based on English curriculum or British Council test center.

 


How many subjects in IGCSE? How many subjects we have to take?

There are about 70 subjects from 6 subject groups. The 6 subject groups can be divided into 2 levels that are Core and Extended. In order to pass the test, the test takers must pass 5 subjects.

1. Core

basic subjects, the subjects are easier than Extended subjects. The test takers will receive only Grade C , D, E, F, G.

2. Extended

the Extended subjects are more difficult than the Core subjects. The test takers will have a chance to get Grade A and B and also Grade C, D, E, F, G.

To register for Core or Extended Subjects depends on the requirements of each university whether it is required your Grade in those subjects or not. Some universities may require Grade, so you need to register Extended subjects in order to meet the requirements.

Where to apply IGCSE?

1. British Council Thailand

Students can make an online registration on Website : www.britishcouncil.or.th/ by checking time and test date on the schedule announced on the website. The test location is on 8th floor Waveplace building Ploenchit Road (next to Ploenchit BTS station)

2. International Program schools in English Education system.

The school will operate the test. The international schools that use English Education system such as Anglo Singapore International School.

3. Harrow International School

The school opens for outsider students. Outsiders can register for the test at the school and the test location is at Harrow International School.

 


What year should you take IGCSE?

Students who are in IGCSE system are around Year 10 – Year 11 (equivalent to Grade 9-10 or M.3-M4 in Thai education system). Normally, students around 14 – 16 years old will register for the test, however, you can still take the test if you are under 14 years old.

 


IGCSE Test fee 2022

The IGCSE test fee is different in each subject. The test fee is between 5,400 – 12,500 THB/subject. For Late registration, you have to pay extra fee 3,100 THB/subject. Here are the example of the test fee in each subject ; Biology 8,720 THB, Business Studies 7,665 THB, Chemistry 8,720 THB, Combined Science 8,720 THB, and Coordinated Science 12,195 THB.

 


When to take the test?

IGCSE test schedule has 2 times a year : the beginning of the year in May or June and the test result will be announced in August, the end of the year in October or November and the test result will be announced in January.

How to check your test result

Students can check the results on the website in 2 months after the test date. The test certificate from Cambridge International Examination will be sent to you within 16-18 weeks after the test result announcement. Here are the processes to check your test result :

  1. open the website : https://candidates.cambridgeenglish.org/Members/Login.aspx
  2. Register (for new applicant) or Log in to the website
  3. Fill in your applicant’s ID and the secret number password
  4. Fill in Email and Password
  5. When the test result is launched, you will receive a confirmation email then you can log in to the system to check your result.

 


How to choose IGCSE Subjects and faculties

There are more than 70 subjects for you to choose and many schools will require you to take at least 5 subjects; 3 mandatory subjects which are English, Science, and Math and 2 elective subjects such as Humanities, Arts, Technology. However, students should select subjects that match your interesting because it will help you know your skills sooner and it can prepare you for your study in universities later on for example;

If you are interested in Faculty of Business Administration or Economics, you should study Accounting.

If you are interested in Faculty of Engineering or Science, you should take Biology.

If you are interested in Faculty of Arts or Liberal Arts, you should take English.

Moreover, in order to decide which subjects to choose (Core or Extended Curriculum), students need to read and check the requirements of the faculties and universities especially international universities as some faculties may require specific grade and subjects. So, you need to concern your decision.

 


Faculty of Medicine

IGCSE test can be accepted in faculty of medicine both in Thailand and International but students must also have A-Level and B-MAT score in order to compare with high school certificate.

Please note that you must have a valid email as all communications about your registration will be sent directly to your e-mail account automatically.

How do I check my IGCSE results online ?

Firstly, you have to register for online result service. This can be done by going to the Cambridge English Online Results Service and click on the Register button. Then you enter your candidate ID and secret number from your confirmation of entry. After that, you can enter your email address and choose a password. Once your results are ready, you will receive an email to confirm. Then you can log in to see your results.

How many papers are there in IGCSE English ?

There are two main papers under IGCSE ESL (English as a second language): core and extended. At the end of each course, you will need to take three papers: reading and writing, listening, and speaking for Core paper, or reading and writing, listening, and speaking for Extended paper, For IGCSE English literature, there are three different papers, which comprises prose and poetry, drama, and unseen (materials).

There two main courses: core and extended. Each comprises two papers. For example, under extended paper, you need to write Paper 2 and Paper 4. Each paper has a different time limit and marks.
