What is IELTS ?

IELTS stands for The International English Language Test System for general foreign people especially those who are interested in study or work aboard. We shortly called “IELTS”. The test covers all four skill; Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.

IELTS has two test versions : Academic Modules and General Training

– IELTS Academic is designed for those who want to study in international programs or study aboard in English-speaking countries.

– IELTS General Training is designed for those who want to apply for a job or work in English-speaking countries and for those who want to request work permission in English-speaking countries.


IELTS Test Center in Thailand

There are two IELTS test centers in Thailand

1. IELTS British Council

Those who want to apply for a test with British council can apply at British council branches in Bangkok and Chiang Mai or apply online via or British Council representatives all over country.

– Cost 6,300 THB
– Bangkok Test location : The Landmark Hotel Bangkok
– Chiang Mai Test location : The Shangri-La Hotel Chiang Mai (89/8 Chang Klan Road Amphoe Mueng Chiang Mai 50100 Thailand)

2. IELTS IDP Thailand

Those who want to apply for a test with IDP can apply at all IDP branches in Bangkok or apply online via or IDP representatives all over country.

– Cost 6,500 THB for Khon Kan, Hat Yai and Phuket



The International English Language Test System (IELTS) is a test of four skills just like TOEFL. The four language skills are Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.


IELTS Listening

Test period 30 minutes 40 questions with 4 sessions

The first two parts are about everyday social context talking between two people and the monoloque set in everyday social context, too

The last two parts are academic listening. The test will be more difficult in each part both content and English accent and idioms.


IELTS Reading

The Reading test has a wide range to test your reading skills. The examinee is going to read authentic texts about everyday life which are taken from books, journals, advertisements, newspapers, textbooks and books. You will be tested your understanding and analyzing in reading and how you can use the data provided in the text to answer questions.


IELTS Writing

Writing Task 1: To test your ability in organize data, the examinee must describe and explain diagram, graph or table in your own words. Also, the examinee must compare data and summarize the stages of process, events and how something works. You should spend 20 minutes and write minimum of 150 words

Writing Task 2: The examinee will be asked to write an essay in response to an issue, a point of view or a problem in order to test your ability in solving problem and share your logical opinions in a formal style. You should compare and differentiate the two events and opinions and make it easily comprehend. You should spend 40 minutes and write minimum of 250 words.

IELTS Speaking

The speaking test will take approximately 11-14 minutes. It is an interactive test between examiner and examinee. The test is designed to assess English communication usage in real life situation and is divided into three parts

1) Introduction and Interview : Examinee will introduce him/herself about 4-5 minutes.

2) Individual talk : Examinee will be given a task card about a particular topic. Examinee will have one minute preparation and one or two minutes to answer. Examiner will ask you about that topic in one or two questions.

3) Two way discussion : The examiner will ask you more questions about the same topic from part 2. This part will take about four or five minutes.

Note : Your talking will be recorded while test.



IELTS is the International English Language Testing System and is the popular test using for higher education in English speaking countries and apply for a job in international organizations. The test is designed to assess your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills and the test and score format are standard in every country around the world. The IELTS UKVI is a test which is approved by the UK government for UK VISAS and Immigration Application. If you need to use IELTS UKVI scores in supporting your visa application, you must take the test at a government-approved location only.

If you apply for a Tier 4 student visa to study in bachelor or postgraduate degree, you are required to meet IELTS score results set by UK colleges or universities. You can apply for a test at any of 1,100 IELTS test locations around the world.


How different between IELTS and IELTS UKVI ?

The test report forms will be slightly different in order to show that examinee has taken the IELTS test at a UK visa session. However, the actual tests are all the same (content, format, difficulty levels, scores, examiners and so on).

9 You are an expert English user. You can fully fluently and accurately communicate and completely understand language.
8 You are a very good English user. You can fully fluently and accurately communicate with occasional inaccuracies in unfamiliar situations. You can logical handle complicated argumentation.
7 You are a good English user. You can fluently communicate with occasional inaccuracies in some situations. You can generally handle complicated language and understand reasoning.
6 You are a competent English user. You can generally communicate despite some inaccuracies and misunderstandings. You can fairly communicate in complex language especially in familiar situations.
5 You are a modest English user. You can partial communicate and understand overall meaning in most situations. You are likely to make mistakes but still handle basic communication in familiar situations.
4 You are a limited English user. You communication is limited only in your familiar situations. You often have problems in understanding and expression and cannot use complex language.
3 You are an extremely limited English user. You can only communicate in general meaning in very familiar situations and communication breakdowns often occur.
2 You are an intermittent English user. You can communicate in basic information only in words in familiar situations. You have difficulty in understanding spoken and written English.
1 You are non-user. You have no ability to use language. You can possibly speak only a few isolated words.
