BMAT is divided into three sections as following:

Section 1 : Aptitude and Skills

Generic skills in problem solving, understanding arguments and data analysis and inference

The highest points and lowest points in BMAT Section 1 and 2 are 9 and 1 respectively. Normally, universities require 5-6 points. Section 3 has two score types, 0-5 points and A,C,E. There will be 2 committee to give those two score types then the final average score will be calculated. For example, if the first committee gives you 4C and another gives you 4A, the final score is 4B.

Are you allowed calculator in BMAT ?

You are not allowed to use calculator on BMAT. You may use calculator on your BMAT practice. Actually, BMAT mainly assesses on skills that are used in undergraduate study: problem solving, understanding argument, data analysis and inference. If you deeply understand on that matters, using calculator or not does not affect that much. Although, some problems are like math’s problems, you can estimate them.

Do you need BMAT for dentistry ?

Yes. The BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) is an admissions test for applicants to Medicine, Biomedical Science and Dentistry courses at certain universities. BMAT is a 2-hour, pen-and-paper test divided into three sections: aptitude and skills, scientific knowledge and application (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Math), and writing task (essay). BMAT gives you a chance to show your ability in all skills that are required for university level study.

Does Cambridge require Bmat ?

Yes. The Bmat is used to assess scientific aptitude and focuses on scientific abilities relevant to the study of Medicine at Cambridge (the Bmat is also used by some other universities). Bmat will be used with other elements of student’s application to consider which applicants will pass admission processes. Students who get the higher Bmat results have more chances to be invited to interview.

How do I prepare for Bmat section 2 ?

For Bmat section 2, you have 30 minutes to do 27 multiple choice questions. Although, Bmat is set at the same level as GCSE or IGCSE, you will find that some question is in AS-level. Therefore, it is a good idea to review the topics at the beginning of A-level. Then, you can do practices on past papers providing on the Bmat website. Moreover, calculator is not permitted for Bmat. You can use calculator only for your practice.

How do I prepare for BMAT ?

You can find many resources to help you prepare for BMAT. The first thing to do is check what you need to know and understand, then make a plan for studying or doing practices yourself. After that you can download practice papers or past papers from BMAT website. You have to review answers and explained answers. The most important thing is you must do practice papers under timed condition.

How long is BMAT valid for ?

The BMAT test is taken by applicants to apply for Medical, Biomedical Science and Dentistry universities. The BMAT results are usually issued 3-4 weeks after the test has taken place. The BMAT results are only valid in the year that the test is taken .If you take a gap year or wish to reapply the following year, you must retake the test in the same admission cycle.

How long is the BMAT ?

The BMAT is the test about general skills (section 1), scientific knowledge (section 2), and ideas or communication skills (section 3). The test lasts in 2 hours for 3 sections: aptitude and skills, scientific knowledge, and essay marking criteria. After the test, the BMAT score will be issued in 3-4 weeks. How many questions are on the BMAT ?

For BMAT section 1, it consists of 35 multiple choices questions. In BMAT section 2, you will provided with 27 multiple choices questions. For section 3, there are 4 essays for you to choose; each essay option is based on a short quote or statement. These can be scientific or medically-related, but often aren’t. You have to answer only one question to express your ideas clearly and concisely.

How many times can you take the BMAT ?

You can only take the test once, August or October. If you take BMAT twice, it may be viewed as an unfair advantage. In addition, the BMAT scores results are shared with all schools or universities you are applying to. Actually, you do not have to take BMAT several times if you prepare yourself properly. From the first time you know BMAT until the time for taking the test; you yourself know your weakness, whenever you see your improvement, so that is your time.

How much is the BMAT test ?

It costs £48, or €67 for standard entry fee within the EU (including the UK) and £81, €112, or $120 for standard entry fee outside the EU. If you apply for the test late, there is additional late entry fee: £34, €47, $50. Moreover, if you think there has been an error in the reporting of your results, you can submit a resulted enquiry and pay £34, €47, $50 to remark your scores. Is BMAT similar to UKCAT ?

BMAT and UKCAT are required for medical and dentistry universities. Both shared some similarities; the content is like material you have covered at school, requires essay writing, and time taken in taking the tests are the same 2 hours. Although, there are many similarities but in detail, BMAT is more difficult, because UKCAT consists of several simple question whereas BMAT tests applicants’ ability to solve complex problems.

Is calculator allowed in BMAT ?

No. Calculator cannot be uses on BMAT. You may use calculator on your BMAT practice only. Actually, BMAT mainly assesses on skills that are used in undergraduate study: problem solving, understanding argument, data analysis and inference. Is Leeds Ukcat or BMAT ?

Only one result will be considered and this will be your first sitting of BMAT. However, Leeds does not have a set required BMAT mark and there was no strict Leeds BMAT cut off now.

Leeds does not have a BMAT cut off score. Leeds ranks applicants on their overall BMAT score, using the ranking to separate students into 5 bands. Students in the top 20% are placed in the top band, awarded the full 5 points. Those in the bottom 20% are placed in the lowest band, they are awarded 1 point. Students’ total BMAT score is calculated as the sum of each section, but with Section 3 given half the weighting of the other sections. This is because Section 3 will be revisited during the interview process.

What's the difference between UKCAT and BMAT ?

The first difference thing is the amounts of the sections. For UKCAT, it consists of 5 sections: verbal reasoning, decision making, quantitative reasoning, abstract reasoning, and situational judgment. Whereas BMAT consists of 3 sections: aptitude and skills, scientific knowledge and applications, and written communication. Thus, UKCAT takes more time than BMAT. In addition, UKCAT is easier than BMAT, BAMT tests knowledge and problems solving, but UKCAT tests aptitude more than knowledge.

When should you take the BMAT ?

It depends on your decision. Moreover, there are many factors to take into consideration: availability on the test date, duration time to prepare for the test, etc. Firstly, you have to check requirement of university you are planning to apply. Secondly, you should make a plan for your study before decide which session you will register for BMAT test.
