Countable and Uncountable Nouns
Some nouns in English can’t be counted which are called uncountable noun and will therefore always be in the singular form with no S ending. Some common nouns that people often get wrong in the IELTS test are : advice, air, alcohol, bread, chocolate, energy, flood, food, furniture, ice, information, knowledge, leather, literature, luggage, money, noise, paper, research, rain, traffic, work, wool
You cannot use any of these words below with uncountable nouns:
- a plural verb
- a number
- a few, a couple, many, a number of
- a/an
Also, there are some words which can be both countable and uncountable nouns and we often get confused.
I hope these common mistakes will help you review your English grammar before taking the test. Keep reading and practice the test. Your goal is waiting for you. See you next issue.
